First Capital Bank Zambia
By Heinrich Malan
Did you know that the new Head Office for First Capital Bank Zambia will be the first 5-star green building , rated by Green Building Council South Africa ( GBCSA ) in Zambia ? The ‘ Design ’ rating was achieved earlier this year and our consultant , Kagiso Sebetso from Time Projects Botswana , worked hard with all the consultants and contractors . The application for the ‘ As built ’ rating has also recently been done . The project team has 24 months after completion to get the ‘ As built ’ rating and we have no doubt that this will be achieved .
Talking about completion , the contractors are working hard to have the building ready by October 2023 . All the internal finishes are done , and the team is now waiting for Supreme Shopfitters to do the drywalling , shopfitting and furniture . They should start in August 2023 and are working on a six-week program to complete .
One of the requirements for the green building is that 70 % of the building ’ s electrical supply should come from solar power . This design and supply tender was put together by Innovation Expand and the tender was awarded to Timbuktu from Lusaka who is no newbie in this industry and has completed several similar installations in Zambia .
We are very proud of the whole team who is working on this project and are looking forward to the grand opening later in 2023 .
The newly upgraded Lusaka Golf Course is now in full swing , but to be able to maintain this gem required a small army of new , specialised John Deere machines . The new equipment was purchased and delivered to the club by Time Projects and they are hard at work every day maintaining the greens , fairways and surrounds , therefore the need for a purpose-built maintenance facility to maintain and safely store these crucial team members .
Works began on the 630m ² maintenance facility just before the Zanaco open tournament that started on 12 May 2023 , but was unfortunately put on hold leading up to and during this event so as not to disrupt play . Construction resumed after a very successful tournament on 18 May and Time Projects along with the contractors , African Horizon Construction , worked tirelessly to get back on track with the building schedule . We are pleased to confirm that practical completion will still be as planned , at the end of September 2023 .
The maintenance facility will comprise a 225m ² workshop , 117m ² spares and general parts storage , 35m ² fertilizer store , 17m ² secure chemical store and 236m ² of offices , change rooms and sleeping stations . There will also be on-site fuel storage , wash bays and refuse area in the secure service yard . This site is located at the bottom of the driving range alongside the 10th fairway .
