Mrs. Romer, my third-grade teacher, gave a brief description of the parts of speech: noun, verb, adjective; then asked us to list as many examples as we could for each category which she wrote in brightly colored markers, a different color for each part of speech, on large chart paper. I do remember the colors which pleased my eye.

What makes me remember this entire lesson, however, was when she had the class stand up from our seats to perform the actions of the words we had listed on the “Verbs” poster: jump, skip, walk, stand, dance… Together we

moved. The children of the class jumped. We skipped. We walked in a circle around the classroom. We stopped and stood. We danced!

Bank, mutual bank

or credit union?

Not sure whether to choose a bank, mutual bank, or a credit union?

When selecting a financial institution, make sure your deposits are protected: banks are insured by the FDIC, and credit unions by the NCUA. This way, your money is safe, up to $250,000!

While they offer similar services, the differences depend on your interests and financial needs:

- Banks: offer a wide range of services, such as accounts, loans, cards and advanced technology. They are typically for-profit businesses; in other words, they have shareholders or owners.

- Mutual banks: are owned by their customers and depositors. They usually offer lower fees, better rates and in the community where they have presence. Usually focus on supporting local communities.

- Credit unions: are nonprofit, member-owned institutions that often serve specific communities. They usually offer lower fees and better rates.

Before deciding, consider factors such as services, technology, personalized attention, rates, and customer reviews. Compare your options and choose where your money can grow with confidence.
