From the bowels of

Pachamama

Lesly (13 years old), Soleiny (9), Tien Noriel (5) and Cristin (1), are the heroes of this story whose protagonists are the indigenous peoples of the Colombian Amazon, their ancestral beliefs, and their relationship with the Jungle –the other main protagonist--, and the modern science and technology of the Colombian army.

The four indigenous children were flying with their mother in a plane that crashed head-on in the jungle. The pilot and a crew member died instantly. The children's mother survived to encourage her children to leave the jungle and died four days later.

Lesly and her little brothers wandered through the jungle for 40 days, surviving dangers, wild animals, and hunger thanks to their ancestral knowledge.

The soldier Pedro Sanchez, leader

of the rescue group, recognized how all the military technology had to trust and coexist with the original peoples who were the ones who finally found the children. “…something magical has this culture that prays to nature and to the mother jungle. We applied military science, but when we learned about the spirituality that they handle, there was something that clicked and that finally led to finding the minors.”

The soldier repeated the words spoken by the indigenous people:

"The spirits of the jungle were benevolent in the end and Mother Nature returned them."
