Project Description:
The project involved the construction of a 71-foot
long, prefabricated, Pratt steel truss pedestrian bridge with a
prefabricated 30-foot long wooden approach ramp on former railroad
abutments. The Ligonier Township Recreation Board had been working
for several years to obtain grants and donations for construction of the
bridge. The project had a maximum budget of $130,000 and a time limit
of mid-April for two of the grants to be spent. The lowest bid by
Simmonds Construction Services came in at $128,000. There were no
change orders requested on the project, and in spite of the construction work being performed mainly during February
and March of 2013, the project was completed during the first week in April within the contract specified 165 days.
