Covered Bridge in Lancaster County
Project Location:
Lancaster County, PA
Firm:
Rettew
Project Value:
$790,000
Project Description:
Listed on the National Register of Historic
Places, the bridge was ripped from its foundations and swept
downstream by Tropical Storm Lee in September 2011. The severely
damaged bridge has been restored to its previous form using original
plans, a rare case in bridge restoration today. The design included
raising the bridge two feet to reduce the impact of future flooding.
Lancaster County integrated as much of the undamaged wood as
possible. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and
Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency provided funding for the $790,000 project.
