The Structures of the Phoenix Sky Train Presented By Thomas Leech, P.E., S.E. – Gannett Fleming The 5-mile-long PHX Sky Train™ system, located within the Phoenix Arizona Sky Harbor Airport, includes approximately 10,000 feet of the elevated guideway spans consisting of a variety of superstructure types, unique to the region, including trapezoidal, cast-inplace, post-tensioned, concrete box girders with spans up to approximately 340 feet; trapezoidal, precast, prestressed-concrete (and in some cases externally post tensioned) u-beams; tangent and curved welded steel plate girders; and integral welded steel box girder pier straddle caps.
