My name is Tiyee La Mar, and I am a freshman at the University of Arizona majoring in Film and Television Production. I am an up and coming film maker, director, and editor. I recently won Power Poetry's "The Hate U Give" scholarship in the film category. I had recently seen the film "The Hate U Give," which really was a huge influence towards my production "This Is America."
I am a YouTuber, and I was vlogging my reaction after watching the film in theaters. The day after watching the film, I discovered "The Hate U Give" scholarship, and came to a realization that I NEEDED to voice my opinion, especially on a huge topic such as this one. I eventually came to the conclusion that I should make a poem, and then create a visual so the words could be more of an impact. I just hoped that the visual would be affective enough, and apparently it was! This was the first time I voiced my opinion, especially on a huge topic such as this one.
