When Harrison was diagnosed with autism, we were referred to AAFS. At first, we weren’t sure, worried it wouldn’t work. Then a staff member called and listened to my concerns, assuring me it would be okay. She was right.
Our little boy, who didn’t play with other kids, blossomed. Through AAFS, Harrison has tried activities like parkour, climbing and Superheroes Hockey, showing us his potential. AAFS helps him through difficulties with school and therapy because with them, he can be just a kid who plays, smiles and laughs. He considers AAFS to be his friends and can barely wait until he sees them again.
With AAFS, we know Harrison is in a wonderful, caring environment and that gives me peace of mind. We finally feel like we belong. Thank you AAFS – our family is stronger because of you.
Howdy, my name is Tristan .J. Anderson, and i have been with AAFS since November 2018. I joined AAFS when I was participating at Spectrum Advantage. I have PDD-NOS autism and i am high functioning, so after college, i had problem trying to find work but i signed up for an employment seeking class where i got paid to take these classes, so i had to move to Calgary and start taking the courses. In October, i was shown a board with the places that they work with and i saw AAFS name on their so i saw the job aligned with it was, Graphic Design. I took 2 years of Multimedia Production Programs in College, so i went to apply at AAFS and i was hired, but i would be a Paid Intern on contract. I enjoyed working there, i was really accepted their and felt like i belonged their. When my contract with them was about to end, i was really upset and i almost teared up when i was talking with Brittney, one the Staff members who showed up in one journalism meeting and she understood. In the middle of february, i was informed i would get to stay and become a part time member of AAFS. To this day, i am still here working on their MagAAFSzines. I had opened up more of my creative ideas and designs to AAFS and was really welcoming and i got to see my art up for everyone to see.
