The past year has been an exciting one for the Autism Aspergers Friendship Society of Calgary. Our Board has been active on many fronts, and both the structure of the Board and the effectiveness of Board Committees continue to develop and improve. Our Board added two new members in 2018; Achilles Grobler and Ian Menzies have been valuable additions to the organization and have helped to diversify the skill set of the Board. The Board consists of a group of very dedicated individuals who support the organization in many ways. As the Board Chair, it is great to see so many Board members actively participate and assist in AAFS programs and events.
CHAIR REPORT
I strongly encourage all members to consider joining the Board and/or one of the many sub-committees of the Board. These committees provide a great opportunity to learn more about AAFS and to make positive contributions to the organization.
The recent focus of the Board has been centred on supporting Dean as he develops the organizational structure of AAFS. This has included a great deal of work in the Human Resources area and has led to a high functioning leadership team for the organization. One of the key goals for the Board has been to ensure that the staff feel valued. The Board has invited key staff to join our Board meetings to allow them to share the good work they do with various programs being run by the organization.
