Hello, I’m Nancy Scott, the Fund Development and Administration Coordinator. I am originally from Nova Scotia. Some people say they hear an accent when I say certain words.
I have been in fund development for 25 years. It was a role I fell into. Libraries had always been a part of my life and that’s where I thought I would spend my career. But life takes some interesting twists and I went from the library to a non-profit as the receptionist to the office manager to the volunteer coordinator to the Director of Development. I decided that if that was the role I would now have, I needed to upgrade my learning. I took courses from Mount Royal, joined the Association Of Fund Raising Professionals and received my accreditation as a Certified Fund Raising Executive. I also received accreditation from the Association of Volunteer Managers in Virginia. I was the first person in Calgary to receive this designation.
People have said they couldn’t do what I do … asking people for money. My response is always the same - I’m not asking for me. I’m asking for my organization.
I have worked with a social service agency, an organization for people with mobility issues, a school for children with learning disabilities, and provided volunteer development support to everything from an equestrian group, to a cycling group, to an organization making dreams come true for people in long-term care facilities.
