The Accident
One time in summer, Edsel was swinging on a rope swing. Tarzan was
very popular when he was a kid and swinging on a rope tied to a tree
branch was just like swinging around on a vine. Edsel climbed up on a
tree to get to a rope. He stepped on a rotten branch and the branch
broke. He fell several feet and caught his upper lip and nose on the sharp
end of a branch. He split his nose and lip open wide and knocked himself
unconscious. Edsel woke up in the hospital while his lip was being sewed
up. He could not receive anesthesia because of the condition of his nose.
He had to be held down the rest of the time he was being sewed up. He
had to stay in the hospital due to dramatic blood loss six weeks.
