VOICES LAUNCH EVENT DECEMBER 18 , 2022

In that moment , everyone relaxed into themselves , poetry and song emanating around the room , from the headphones into our inner worlds . Children , elders , artists , activists , educators , organizers , Ghanaians , diasporans , allies , collectively in unison , united by their listening . This went on for over an hour , as people smiled , chuckled , and held each other with gestures of affection .
As the play ended and we returned to collective space , we began our panel discussion with Dr . Angela Davis and Nana Darkoa Sekyiamah , Ghanaian writer and author of the Sex Lives of African Women , moderated by aja monet . Together they processed the themes of the play , addressed the role of artists in freedom making , diaspora feminism , what a feminist return looks like , and for what it looks like for the diaspora and Africans on the continent to move together in solidarity . Vickenzie , our V-Day Ghana organizer , closed out the space with uplifting and heartfelt words . We then ended in dance , laughter and more photo moments as our DJs curated the vibes for celebration .
