Archaeological Work

After completing her master’s degree, Gagliano worked in archaeology for 12 years. She spent time a variety of places, including England, France, Yemen, Hungary, and the eastern United States.

“They were all different, and I liked them for varying reasons . . . I don’t think I could pick a favorite,” Dawn admits. “I spent the most time in England, at a site called Boxgrove, which is a half million year old early hominid site. We did excavation-- digging out hominids, the remains of tools, and animals.”

Dawn spent 2 ½ summers at Boxgrove. She also spent a notable 8 weeks in Hungary teaching archaeological field school to undergraduate students, an experience she describes as the best job she’s had thus far.
