for high school or college students interested in aviation. “The first
intern we had went on to become an airline pilot,” Johnson recalls.
“We have a young lady who is interning with us while she attends
flight school, and her goal is to be a pilot for FedEx. There is a pilot
shortage that will likely continue, so some airlines will help pay for
your education.”
XNA offers tuition reimbursement. “We’ll help pay for classes or a
degree program related to your job,” Johnson says. Reimbursement
is based on how well you do in class. “We’ll reimburse 100 percent
of your books and tuition if you earn an A, 75 percent for a B
and 50 percent for a C grade,” she explains. The airport offers

Johnson says XNA needs more people. “We’d like to add another
HVAC technician, two security officers and a special systems
position for someone who will maintain our public address system,
security cameras, security card systems, fire alarms and computer
systems.”

Many other careers are available through the airlines and other
companies that do business at XNA. “Air traffic controllers, aircraft
mechanics, inspectors, parking and car rental, food and beverage
services and retail jobs are offered through the different tenants at
the airport,” Johnson explains. “The Regional Jet Center at XNA
provides fixed base operations, which include fueling, aircraft
maintenance, hangars and aircraft tie down,” she adds. If you’re

attend training and conferences and be involved in the community
through things like serving on committees or being active in a
chamber of commerce,” Johnson says. “You learn to network from
those experiences and develop great resources. We’re looking for
