Richie Foran passed his first test in management as Inverness topped Group C and safely made it into the last 16 of the revamped League Cup. ICT completed the group stage with, 3 wins and a penalty shootout loss.
The fans have warmed to the idea of Foran as manager, since he was announced as boss in June, and any doubters may have been converted after watching Inverness net fifteen times in four matches. The change in style has pleased supporters more than anything, ICT show more intent in their matches now and that shows in the big scorelines.
The campaign started against Cowdenbeath. If just viewing the scoreline it looked to be a narrow ICT win with Gary Warren grabbing a late winner, but that wasn’t the whole story of the match. Iain Vigurs hit the woodwork three times so the ICT were unlucky not have a few more goals
Then it was Dundee United up next, Foran’s first match at home. The change in style was clear and new boy Scott Boden gave ICT the lead after 35minutes. However, a sloppy start to the second half saw United level, Stewart Murdoch fired a great strike past young Cammy Mackay just after the restart. Mackay was assured in his full debut, and was singled out with praise by Foran after the match. Also, the new boys Kevin McNaughton, Scott Boden and Billy King impressed. ICT edged the game over the 90 but lost 4-1 in the shootout after Draper and Tansey saw their penalties saved.
