Travelling has its Health Benefits
It’s no secret travel has many benefits to our health and wellbeing, but exactly what happens when you
take a break from the nine to five in order to travel? The most obvious health benefit of traveling is
stress reduction. Traveling has the ability to take you out of your daily routine and into new surround-
ings and experiences; and this can reset your body and mind. It makes coping with the nine to five easi-
er, it opens your mind to new ways of dealing with old problems – or what you thought were problems.
Even planning a trip can have a fantastic effect on the body – it boosts happiness and feels
rewarding. Not only does travel reduce stress but it expands the mind. Meeting new people
and adapting to new situations makes one more globally and culturally aware. This keeps
the mind sharp, increases creativity and helps with personal growth all in accordance to the
experiences one chooses to engage in on their travels. Also travel can be an opportunity
to escalate your fitness routines. It has been proven that we are generally more active
while traveling; as opposed to sitting in an office chair all day. On a personal note, whilst
exploring Spain and France, I broke my personal record of 19,979 steps per day. I also
went on the Mediterranean diet, which is one of the best diets in the world with equal
amount of fresh vegetables, fruits and a glass of vino. Yet another benefit is the influence of Travel on your sleeping hab-
its. Insufficient rest mixed with stress is a very toxic recipe for your mental state. It is recommended that adults sleep at
least seven hours per night which can be easily achieved whilst travel-
ing. In the Mediterranean you might even participate in an afternoon nap
after lunch, also known as a Siesta. It’s evident that travel comes with nu-
merous health benefits for the mind, body and soul, so what are you wait-
ing for – it's time to book that staycation, long walk on the boardwalk
or vacation. Your health will thank you for it!
