Healthcare providers and patients feel that a compassionate connection can be established through demeanor , quality of care , intention , and presence within even short interactions ( Malenfant et al ., 2022 ). This presentation will explore compassion in the healthcare field , including reflections from current healthcare workers . Discussion will focus on the importance of compassion , why some individuals feel more / less compassion than others and if compassion can be learned .

Discussion will examine how the portrayal of violent acts by news outlets , social media , and other entertainment platforms can lead to obsession in the form of fandoms . As a consequence , there is often more focus on the perpetrator than the victims and others that have been affected . The effect of race , gender , appearance , and socioeconomic status on perception of violent criminals will also be explored .
