Natalie Cianfrani + Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy This presentation will show the benefits of equine-assisted psychotherapy as a treatment used in conjunction with other conventional forms of therapy . Equine-assisted psychotherapy , known as EAP , is newer in psychotherapeutic interventions , even though animal-assisted interventions in general have a long history in mental health treatment . Discussion will focus on the importance of developing a relationship between the horse and patient and how this bond , specifically , can help patients reformulate their thinking and responses .
Natalie Cianfrani + People Who Work in Veterinary Medicine Are More Likely to Develop Depressive Symptoms This presentation will compare those working in veterinarian medicine with those in other professions and examine if there are higher rates of depressive symptoms , anxiety symptoms , and thoughts of suicide . Given prior research , it is hypothesized that veterinarians will experience higher depressive symptoms , anxiety symptoms , and increased thoughts of suicide compared to those working in other professions . Participants will be recruited via social media and classroom settings with targeted data collection occurring on veterinarian social media pages and workplaces to ensure a sufficient number of employees in veterinary medicine .
Tranisha Cooley Religious Identity Among Young Adults This presentation will explore why and how young adults feel a connection to religious practice . Through self-reflection , discussion , and exploration of the research , I will consider the impact of individual identity , family , and community on the development of religious identity and practice .
Tranisha Cooley , Aliyah Phillips , and Roma Rodriguez College-Aged Students ’ Mental Health Is Significantly Impacted by the Use of Cell Phones Prior research shows that the intensity and type of mobile phone use is associated with the mental health of university students . Building on this prior work , we seek to examine the correlation between phone use and mental health in undergraduate students . Through self-report questionnaires circulated on social media and on Gwynedd Mercy University ’ s campus , participants will provide data regarding their phone use , social media usage , mental health , and demographic characteristics . We suspect that overuse ( i . e ., phone addiction ) will be associated with increased reporting of depressive , anxiety , and stress symptoms . 19
