Welcome from
sports coach UK’s Chair
Chris Baillieu MBE
Welcome to the 2014 UK Coaching Summit
here at the Crowne Plaza, Glasgow.
With the Commonwealth Games in
the city fast approaching, it’s the ideal
location to bring together coaching
experts from every corner of the UK.
This year’s event has been planned and
is co-hosted with our colleagues from
sportscotland. We really appreciate
the time, energy and resources they’ve
devoted to the Summit during such a
busy year for sport in Scotland.
The UK Coaching Summit is a key
event for the coaching community.
It allows us to review progress
made over the past 12 months in
implementing The UK Coaching
Framework and map the way forward
for coaching in the UK. There is also
the opportunity to examine and
share excellent coaching practice
and, not to be underestimated,
the chance to network.
Our overall theme this year is ‘Inspiring
the Next Generation through Excellent
Coaching’. I hope that every single
session will encourage you to reflect
on your coaching and apply the
learning to inspire not only the next
generation of participants, but the next
generation of coaches too.
The social aspects of the Summit allow
you to meet other delegates in less
formal surroundings and share your
love of coaching. This year, we will be
enjoying a truly Scottish experience
aboard the Tall Ship moored just a few
minutes’ walk down the Clyde.
I’d like to take this opportunity to thank
everyone involved in developing an
exciting and thought-provoking Summit
programme, and the project team
responsible for planning. Suggestions
for content have come from UK Sport,
Sport England, the Home Country
Sports Councils, governing bodies of
sport and the Coaching Network, as
well as our team at sports coach UK.
If there’s anything you need over the
next two days, please don’t hesitate to
speak to one of the Events Team, who
are on hand to make sure everything
runs smoothly. I look forward to
meeting you all and hope you enjoy
the Summit.
