Common Terminology
Stroke – The forward movement of the club made to strike the ball . If there is intent to strike the ball , and it is missed , this counts as a stroke . If accidentally striking the ball while taking a practice swing , you may replace the ball and this does not count as a stroke .
Gross Score – The total amount of times a stroke is made on a hole . Net Score – Gross Score minus any handicap dots on that hole .
Ready Golf – Opposed to the traditional way of playing where the furthest person away has honors , we support playing ready golf to advocate for better pace of play . When a lady is at her golf ball and ready to play , the group may allow that person to play first . Players who are waiting to hit should be preparing to hit so that upon completion of the players turn , the next lady is ready to hit .
Out of Bounds – Marked by white stakes . There is no relief from out of bounds . The player will replay their shot , with a 1 stroke penalty .
Penalty Area – Marked by red stakes . An area from which relief with a one-stroke penalty is allowed if the player ’ s ball comes to rest there . Players have 3 options when inside a penalty area . We are going to highlight the 2 options that you should consider at LWN . Option 1 –
