A Note on the Title
An obelisk is a tall, four-sided monument that faces all directions, rises to a dramatic point, and endures through the ages.
Obelisk, the Journal of Literature and the Arts at Saint David’ s School, was named by Nicholas Kanavos, Class of 2014. Nicholas examined the Saint David’ s Mission Statement for inspiration, and found that the first letters of several key words could be combined to form our title. O stands for Omega, B for Balance, E for Excellence, L for Love of Learning, I for Ideals, S for Spirituality, and K for Knowledge.
As these words guide the academic accomplishments and personal bearings of the Saint David’ s student, they guide as well his mind and his hand as he labors joyfully to produce meaningful artistic responses to the world. Obelisk invites you to contemplate the words and artworks of the boys of Saint David’ s School.
