Afterlife of Egypt By Hope Federico Journey to the afterlife was a difficult process but in every chase on life there is a light at the end tunnel. When Egyptians were buried they were buried with a book of spells prayers and biblical stories to help guide them through the afterlife. This was called the book of the dead. Every mummy was buried with it in order to survive the underworld. Egyptians mummified because the afterlife was dreadfully important to their religion. Indeed, the afterlife was incredibly religious. If fact “the god of the underworld made the decision on who entered the afterlife.” This was mentioned in the book Egyptian God and Goddesses by Henry Baker. Also, traveling to the afterlife was very scary. The journey to the afterlife was explained as a scary long process. “When you died in Ancient Egypt you take an extremely dangerous journey to the hall of judgment.” That is according to the book of Gods and Goddesses by Henry Baker. To add to that, “Egyptians were deathly afraid of snakes and fire, however these were two obstacles they had to face if they wanted to go to the afterlife.” As stated in MUMMIES! By Keen Goin. Lastly, in order to go to the afterlife. “Egyptians religion indicated that a dead person needed a body and a heart in order to go to the afterlife” As the author Clive Gifford of Food and Cooking of Egypt wrote. To add to that, “when you went to the hall of judgment you had to be a good person to enter the afterlife.” According to Egyptian Gods and Goddesses by Henry Baker. In conclusion, the afterlife was very important to Egypt. The afterlife was a light at the end of the tonel.
