Milly's

Tales

So, I was left as home whilst Paul went off on his own to Castle Tioram and Mull on a ride with 56N.

I’d be upset but as karma would have it his bike broke down on the Corran Ferry and couldn’t be restarted - glad I wasn’t there after all.

Luckily for Paul, Alan and Andrew from Loch Shiel Garage managed to put together a wire and bypass what seemed to be a fault starting circuit and so the trip continued on to the castle but had to skip Mull this time. He can tell you the rest of the story.

The ride to the Corran Ferry was up through Loch Lomond, Crainlarich and Glencoe and although it was a bit grey the weather was supposed to get better through the day.

Corran ferry reached Corran just Cal Mac’s ferry was finishing loading so we rode straight on and relaxed as the crossing started. At £3.00 per bike the Corran Ferry is the ideal way to get to Ardgour and on towards Ardnamurchan and Moidart saving the ride up to and around from Fort William.

We got to the other side but my bike wouldn’t start. Power was good, fuel was there but no joy so Cal Mac’s crew pushed the bike off

the ferry and up the ramp to the main street. A quick call to the insurance company and recovery was arranged for a fix at the roadside outside The Inn at Ardgour - with the sun making an appearance there are worst places to be stuck!

It was about an hour and a half before Alan from Loch Shiel Garage arrived and got to work on the bike. He quickly bypassed the starting circuit and we were off again heading for their garage to get wire rigged up to allow us to start the bike anytime we stopped. It was a great service from Alan and Andrew at the garage- can’t thank them enough.

The roads from Ardgour to the castle are absolutely spectacular. This is about as remote as remote gets. There’s a few sections of long sweeping two-way traffic that leads into single track through some stunning countryside and coastline.

The atmosphere here just makes you want to slow down - in life and riding. It’s quiet with very little traffic and about as scenic as you can get. The diversity of scenery literally around every concert is just incredible and well worth the ride to get here.
