Dr Betty Wood
AMERICAN STUDIES AND GEOGRAPHY , 1963-67
Dr Betty Wood was born in Norfolk , educated in Fakenham and Scunthorpe , and studied American Studies and Geography at Keele between 1963-67 . After graduating from Keele , Betty went on to a master ’ s in London , before undertaking doctoral research at the University of Pennsylvania . She later secured a fellowship at Girton College , Cambridge , where she completed her PhD . An established author , Betty ’ s research focussed on American history and the origins of racial slavery . Betty died earlier this year , aged 76 .
