A pioneer reminisces

Patrick Campbell ( English , History and Education , 1957 ) regards his years at Keele as among the most formative of his life . In his memoirs , he conveys the ethos of Keele during the early years and the vision of Lord Lindsay :
“ The role of Keele in providing a rewarding environment for gifted young students cannot be underestimated . It was , in my experience , a relaxed and civilized community , with a rich social life and approachable staff . That Keele still wins national awards for the uniqueness of its student experience reflects those earlier values so cherished by its founding fathers .”
A visiting Professor at the Universities of British Columbia and Colorado , Patrick is the author of ten books , about forty academic articles , and much journalism . He has now retired to Phuket , Thailand , where he is able to indulge his love of nature and his passion for environmental issues .
Patrick reminisces about the challenges of the foundation year , the academics who inspired him and why the Keele community holds such a n important place in his memories .
