Paddler Species
For some paddlers navigating a river
is about reading the water, keeping a
blistering rhythm and dropping other
racing snakes off their wave. They’re
racing!
For some its about grimly making the
finish. ONLY the finish brings a smile
to their faces; every rock, every rapid
is scowled at. Their pleasure comes
afterwards, in the telling. They’re
enduring!
For some its about being there, enjoying
the wonderful privilege of being alive
and out on a wild river. They’re slow,
but you can get a smile out of them even
when they’re duct-taping cracks. They’re
tripping!
