FAMOUS PAIR
OF MOUNTAINS
The twin peaks that juts out of the
Caribbean Sea is the result of volcanic
activity less than a million years ago.
They are dubbed the most famous pair of
mountains in the world and the most
photographed site in the Caribbean. In
2004, UNESCO declared it a World
Heritage site.
Gros Piton measures about 2,619 ft/786 m
and Petit Piton about 2,461 ft/739 m.
Gros Piton is located in Choiseul and
Petit Piton in Soufrière and are connected
by the Piton Mitan Ridge.
A popular tourist site, it takes 2 hours to
climb Gros Piton. Petit Piton on the other
hand is a riskier more taxing climb.

panaromic view of the entire island from the summit.
The Amerindians
considered the mountains
to have mystical powers.
