The fair, planned by Terisa Pittman and Sheri Thornton, was the culmination of a career research unit in Technology Foundations. Students progressed through “life” via booths manned by local businesses, using salaries from careers researched to determine how much they could spend on housing, transportation, entertainment, utilities, communications, clothing, food, insurance, pets, beauty salons, and gyms. Students also had a chance to spin the “Wheel of Reality” where they had to manage an unexpected expense or windfall. Students came away with an understanding of the importance of budgeting, financial planning, and making wise purchasing choices.
