Design and creation of a
botanical path
Intercultural activities week
In the Intercultural Week students participated in various
workshops and activities designed to promote tolerance and
highlight the cultural diversity of countries and ethnic groups in
our school. Eco-Schools students and other volunteers took
part in the digging, planting of the ecological path
In the Antonio DomÃnguez Ortiz Institute we
are fortunate to have a lot of "green"
space. For this reason, we decided to
design and plant a green or ecological
path, using examples of different
species of tree provided by Madrid City
Council, planted alongside trees already
found in the grounds of the School.
Two "Ligustrum japonicum" (Japanese
ligustrum, or Japanese privet) mark the
start of the path, which continues,
species by species and tree by tree,
along a route marked by signs made
from recycled material, illustrating
natural diversity and the different
continents that each species originally
comes from.
Our pupils have worked on the path, digging
the holes, planting trees and collecting
the topsoil, vegetable matter and
watering them. This has enabled out
students to enjoy an outdoor activity and
the opportunity to work in teams.
In order to complete the path some posters
with botanical information were
designed, and mounted on recycled
wooden fruit boxes.
