The design process

Trending was born out of rising interest in politics in
ages 18-24; in the 2015 election, the percentage of young
people that voted was the highest since 1997. This suggested
that there was a significant opening in the market for a
magazine that helps inform this generation and combines
reading for pleasure with education. Trending builds politics
in to popular culture to form a go-to of current news.
What you see here are snippets of my design process. I
knew my cover had to be audience-specific and spark interest
in a generation used to free content online - as well as
standing out from the usual politically-based magazines.
Heading into the festival season it seemed only right
that this be the vibrant background to my cover. I focused
