“We were proud of what we were doing, we were admired”

Elizabeth Kalhammer is a german woman who worked in Berghof, the second residence of Adolf Hitler, as a maid when she was about 20. She has said nothing for 70 years and today she will break the silence of this horrific past.

Hello, Elizabeth. It is a several pleasure to have you here today to unearth the secret that if I’m not wrong you have kept for more than 70 years.

It is my pleasure to be here with you. And no, you aren’t wrong. It has been since we lost the second world war that i haven't talk about it in public or out of my family circle to don’t get in trouble.

Woah! This is such a long time. So, you worked in Berghof as a Adolf Hitler maid when you were around your 20 years old. How was it like?

It was simply amazing. We were young and innocent and we were the girls that everyone talk about. When we went for coffee people would look at us and say “Look! The Berghof girls are sitting there.” They would cook especially for us.

What was your daily routine at the house?

Wow! This is such a long time. So, you worked in Berghof as a Adolf Hitler maid when you were around your 20 years old. How was it like?

I used to help out in the kitchen washing dishes. We knew that everything must be spic and span and we were told not to make noise.

What could you explain me about Hitler? What do you remember about him?

In a normal day he wouldn't go to bed before 4 in the morning and he wouldn't get up before 2pm. I remember standing outside his bedroom: it was a very large room with hardly anything in it. In the far back there was a windows and
