2622 ( Highland ) Squadron
Based at RAF Lossiemouth on the Moray coast , 2622 ( Highland ) Squadron was formed in 1979 to provide Force Protection trained Reservists at a time when the perceived threat from the Soviet Union was substantial . Today it continues in this role of providing personnel to support RAF Operations in the UK and around the world .
Mobilisation :
Trained personnel have the opportunity to volunteer for full-time service to augment the Regular RAF in a number or ongoing security operations at RAF Lossiemouth , other bases within the UK , and locations overseas . These opportunities see teams of personnel , or individuals , mobilised to serve alongside the Regular RAF for a specific task over a pre-determined period of time , such as providing security at the 2012 Olympic games or deploying with aircraft squadrons to support the UKs NATO commitment .
Tasks can also include taking part in large exercises such as Exercise RED FLAG in the USA , and forming part of short-term training teams to counterpart units in foreign militaries such as Albania and Nigeria .
