Course Name: Visual Art Comprehensive I Type of Course: Elective Course Available to: 9th- 11th grade
Prerequisites: None
Description: This course introduces art history, art criticism, aesthetic judgment, and studio production, emphasizes the ability to understand and use elements and principles of design through a variety of media, processes, and visual resources, and explores master artworks for historical and cultural significance.
Course Name: Drawing & Painting I Type of Course: Elective Course Available to: 9th- 12th grade
Prerequisites: VA Comp( 80 %+)
Description: This course will explore intermediate drawing and painting techniques including contour, gesture, value, color theory, composition, and perspective. Through a series of set-ups and demonstrations, students will learn to create dynamic compositions while gaining a sound understanding of materials and methods. Media may include graphite, charcoal, ink, oil pastels, colored pencils, acrylic, and watercolor paints.
Course Name: Drawing & Painting II Type of Course: Elective Course
Available to: 9th- 12th grade
Prerequisites: Drawing / Painting I( 80 %+)
Description: This course introduces advanced drawing & painting techniques and focuses on individual expression. Problem solving skills are challenged to achieve mastery of techniques and materials, and assignments will be more open-ended to allow for more diverse and original outcomes.
Course Name: Pre-IB Visual Art Comprehensive I / II Type of Course: Elective Course
Available to: 9th- 10th grade( IB)
Prerequisites: Must be in IB Magnet Program
Description: This course is an advanced version of the introductory courses, introducing students to additional depth of art history, art criticism, aesthetic judgment, and studio production. It emphasizes the ability to understand and use elements and principles of design through a variety of media, processes, and visual resources, and explores master artworks for historical and cultural significance. Students earn an additional 0.5 quality point towards their GPA for this course.
