Course Name: AP Statistics
Available to: 10th- 12th grade
Type of Course: Core Course
Prerequisites: H. Advanced Algebra( 74 %+), Advanced Algebra( 75 %+), Precalculus( 85 %- 94 %), AP Precalculus( 70 %- 79 %)
Description: A fourth math credit option designed for students to be the equivalent to a one-semester introductory college statistics course to introduce students to the major concepts and tools for collecting, analyzing, and drawing conclusions from data. Students are exposed to four broad conceptual themes: exploring data, sampling and experimentation, anticipating patterns, and statistical inference. This course provides the major concepts and tools used for collecting, analyzing, and drawing conclusions from data by exploring statistics through discussion, activities, and designing surveys and experiments. The course will involve independent study and frequent mathematical and written analysis to prepare students for the AP Statistics Exam. Students earn an additional 1.0 quality point towards their GPA for this course.
Course Name: AP Calculus AB Type of Course: Core Course Available to: 11th and 12th grade Prerequisites: Precalculus( 80 %+), AP Precalculus( 70 %+)
Description: This course is designed to be the equivalent to a first-semester college calculus course devoted to topics in differential and integral calculus. This course features a multi-representational approach to calculus, with concepts, results, and problems expressed graphically, numerically, analytically, and verbally. Exploring connections among these representations builds understanding of how calculus applies limits to develop important ideas, definitions, formulas, and theorems. A sustained emphasis on clear communication of methods, reasoning, justifications, and conclusions is essential. The course will involve independent study and frequent mathematical and written analysis to prepare students for the AP Calculus AB Exam. Students earn an additional 1.0 quality point towards their GPA for this course.
Course Name: AP Calculus BC Available to: 11th and 12th grade
Prerequisites: AP Precalculus( 85 %+); Calc AB( 70 %+)
Type of Course: Core Course
Description: This course is designed to be the equivalent to both first and second semester college calculus courses. This course applies the content and skills learned in AP Calculus AB to parametrically define curves, polar curves, and vector-valued functions, develops additional integration techniques and applications, and introduces the topics of sequences and series. The course will involve independent study and frequent mathematical and written analysis to prepare students for the AP Calculus BC Exam( students will also earn an AP Calculus AB subscore). Students earn an additional 1.0 quality point towards their GPA for this course.
