Course Name: AP Precalculus Available to: 10th- 12th grade
Type of Course: Core Course
Prerequisites: Advanced Algebra( 90 %+) OR H. Advanced Algebra( 85 %+)
Description: This course is a fourth math credit option designed for students who want to push themselves higher to better prepare themselves for college-level calculus and provide grounding for other mathematics and science courses. Students will build deep mastery of modeling and functions as they examine scenarios through multiple representations. Throughout this course, students develop and hone symbolic manipulation skills, including solving equations and manipulating expressions, for the many different function types. Students will also learn that functions and their compositions, inverses, and transformations are understood through graphical, numerical, analytical, and verbal representations, which reveal different attributes of the functions and are useful for solving problems in mathematical and applied contexts. The course will involve independent study and frequent mathematical and written analysis to prepare students for the AP Precalculus Exam. Students earn an additional 1.0 quality point towards their GPA for this course.
Course Name: Statistical Reasoning Type of Course: Core Course
Available to: 11th and 12th grade
Prerequisites: Honors Advanced Algebra(< 74 %) OR Advanced Algebra( 74 %+), OR Advanced Algebra( YL)( 70 %+)
Description: This course is a fourth math credit option designed to give students opportunities to strengthen their understanding of the statistical method of inquiry and statistical simulations. Students will formulate statistical investigative questions to be answered using data, will design and implement a plan to collect the appropriate data, will select appropriate graphical and numerical methods for data analysis, and will interpret their results to make connections with the initial question.
Course Name: Advanced Mathematical Decision Making Type of Course: Core Course
Available to: 12th grade
Prerequisites: Advanced Algebra(< 74 %) OR Advanced Algebra( YL)( 80 %+)
Description: This course is a fourth-year mathematics course option designed to follow the completion of Advanced Algebra: Concepts and Connections. Students will enhance their understanding of concepts explored in the context of real-life phenomena. The intent of this course is for students to combine their understanding of multiple mathematical concepts as they explore and solve real-world mathematical problems. Students will investigate applications of mathematics in a variety of contexts, including business and financial decision-making, earning, investing, spending, and borrowing money, using functions to model problem situations in both discrete and continuous relationships, and using ratios, rates, and percentages to solve problems.
