The businesses managed by Collier Enterprises spans a broad spectrum of real estate
and other investment activities. The company is active in commercial and residential property investment, agribusiness, and private equity.
The company was founded in 1976 under the leadership of Miles C. Collier, grandson of Barron Gift Collier. Originally conceived as a real estate development firm, the company has diversified and grown significantly over the
years. The 1980s saw the formation of Private
Capital Management, an investment and asset
management firm, which grew to nearly $9 billion
in assets under management by 2001, when it
was acquired by Legg Mason.
Collier Enterprises remains committed to our
community and maintaining the quality of life
that attracted Barron Gift Collier to Southwest
Florida nearly a century ago. Over the years,
Collier Enterprises has donated or made land
available to maintain the environmental and
economic health of southwest Florida.
Examples include the north campus of Naples
Community Hospital, the Isabel Collier Read
Healthpark in Immokalee, and the site of the
Naples Botanical Garden. They partnered with
the Naples Botanical Garden to name the South
Wetlands in the future preserve area and
support associated conservation programming.
These contributions are consistent with a long
tradition of environmental stewardship by the
Collier family, which has been instrumental in the
creation of the Big Cypress National Preserve,
Florida Panther National Wildlife Refuge, Ten
Thousand Islands National Wildlife Refuge and
Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary.
The Development of Collier's Reserve
The Collier's Reserve Community was developed by Collier's Reserve LTD, an affiliate of Collier Enterprises. Collier's Reserve LTD was primarily responsible for selling the homesites and for completing construction of the owner's association's facilities
From the beginning, Collier's Reserve was meticulously planned as a residential country club community on approximately 450 acres of land. One of the nation's leading land planners, Edward D. Stone and Associates, was engaged to guide the use of this piece of land that had been in the Collier family holdings for seven decades befrore development. The land was originally permitted for 385 homes, with two areas designated for condominiums or higher density construction. Ultimately, the land usage was limited to just 224 single family homesites.
As previously mentioned, in 1993 when development of the wilderness which is now Collier's Reserve began, the bridge, which spans the Cocohatchee River and now leads to
