It is with heavy hearts that we announce the loss of a cherished former member of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra , John Vance , Assistant Principal Trombone . John joined the BSO in 1986 under the baton of David Zinman , retiring in 2023 . His long tenure spanned three music directors and numerous crucial chapters in the Orchestra ’ s history , and his contributions to the BSO , both musical and personal , will continue to be felt for years to come . We extend our deepest sympathies to John ’ s family , former colleagues , and the many people impacted by his presence . He will be dearly missed .

The BSO family also mourns the loss of Peter G . Angelos , a cherished friend and longstanding supporter of the Orchestra . The honorary title of Life Director is reserved for those having demonstrated distinguished service to the Orchestra and the community . A force of nature at the BSO for decades , Peter was more than deserving of this honor through his leadership in action and philanthropy — personally , together with his wife Georgia , and through the Baltimore Orioles organization . We will remain forever proud to have our donor lounge at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall bear the name , “ The Georgia and Peter G . Angelos Governing Member ' s Lounge .”
