Opera is , of course , the ultimate storytelling genre . Next season will conclude with Verdi ’ s Aida , a tale of romance , tragedy , loyalty , and family — all of the best ingredients for an opera . Heyward will welcome GRAMMY Award-winner Angel Blue , one of the finest sopranos of her generation , to star in the role of Aida . It will be a stunning end to an incredible season .
As always , the BSO will continue its Film , Holiday , Family , and BSO : Fusion series , not to mention a host of exciting Pops performances inspired by Broadway , Motown , and the music of Tina Turner . Audiences can again look forward to compelling intergenerational , communityoriented concerts like Lunar New Year , GospelFest , and Symphony in the City .
A testament to symphonic music ’ s status as a living , breathing art form , we will welcome hometown hero and longtime friend of the BSO James Lee III as next season ’ s Composer in Residence . In addition to several of Lee III ’ s most celebrated works , the BSO has commissioned two world premieres : his Baltimore-inspired Concerto for Orchestra and the new Cello Concerto performed by the acclaimed Joshua Roman . The season will also feature leading women composers of today and emerging voices of tomorrow with works by Hannah Kendall ,
