A first Draft

Already at the beginning of the first proposal the living part , including the shop as well as the cellar , and the working part are treated in different ways . The front house should consist of spaces only for building culture , while the stable and the former workshops should contain mixed uses . This means the stable can be used either by public events for building culture or for other public occasions held by extern clubs and organisation . Therefore , the entrance plays an important role for the project . The stable has a passage with two doors , which connects the street space with the garden area . In the early years , the stable was used to store hay . Therefore , horse drawn carriages used this passage to drove into the barn , unloaded the hay and went straight on into the garden . The basic idea of this passage connecting two worlds , the public street space , and the more protected garden area , is the key idea of this project . At the first draft the new uses have been already implemented into the building . The extended stable consists of exhibitions spaces , an activity room , a café , storages spaces , a workshop , and a multifunctional room for larger events . The living part of the house contains an exhibition space , an info room , a tea kitchen , workplaces , a library , a seminar and a group room . Furthermore , the first proposal for the Schuhmacher ’ s building shows already the importance of the garden space . The garden should be a multifunctional place , like in 1950s and 60s . Due to its south-west orientation , the enormous wide field behind the building and the noise protection the garden offers a lot of potential . In order to increase the spatial qua-
