Building Culture in Liechtenstein

The definition of the building culture centre consists also of a main topic of building culture , on which this project should focus on . Consequently , this theme should also influent the design and the topic should be visible in the concept . Hence , the theme should follow the previous defined words , “ community , creating and intersection ”. Therefore , the topics settlement development , scale and green spaces were choosen . The reason was the massive settlement growth in Liechtenstein of the last century . Then , only in the time between 1984 and 2014 the settlement area , without industry and trade zones , has more than doubled . From 1984 until 1996 similar developments took place in industrial , commercial and traffic areas ( Beck & Lorenz , 2019 , pp . 19 – 21 ). Consequently , the quantity of green spaces fell massively . At the same time the basic purpose of a garden has changed , especially in the Kohlplatz area . Still in 1950s and 60s the garden was a multifunctional space . It was a place where people met , spent their free time , hung out the washing , worked and used it as a source of food ( M . Ott , personal communication , March 4 , 2021 ). Nowadays , the garden lost its multifunctionality . As a result , the purpose of the new building culture centre in the Schumacher ’ s building is to reveal this situation in Liechtenstein and to influent the future development through the direct participation of citizens .
