For my project , the most important part of the history of the castle is the upcycling process . Egon Rheinberger tried to reconstruct the caste ruins with his knowledge of history . He tried to rebuild the castle in its original consistence and also modernized it and added new qualities . He lived with his family in the castle , opened a restaurant with regional wine , and added new kitchens and other facilities . He also let people and guests use some of the rooms as a hostel , added a small chapel with a garden and added a bowling alley – the oldest one in Liechtenstein ( Burgmeier 2018 ). The castle became a cultural centre and was inhabited again . The government planned also to build a cable car to the castle . Today , the castle is no longer inhabited , and the cultural activities are only held on some days of the year with several festivals . The castle however is opened for school classes and for wedding photo shootings . The municipality of Balzers is trying hard to reopen the castle and to use it more intensively . However , the government have not approved the new using concept yet .
