Enfield Spring Walking Tours

ENFIELD STREET WALKING TOUR &( Sunday) ENFIELD STREET CEMETERY Enfield Street School – 11:00 a. m.- 2:00 p. m. May 17( Rain date May 24) Fee $ 25 – Jim Malley No Senior Discount The walking tour begins at Enfield Street School, passes the Old Town Hall, the former sites of the Enfield Dairy & Colonel Hazard’ s mansion. The tour continues past Paul Robeson’ s former home and enters the Enfield Street Cemetery. We will visit the resting places of Colonel Hazard, Orrin Thompson, Dr. Edwin Vail, and Franklin Sheldon and a few more former Enfield residents. The tour will return to Old Town Hall Museum for a tour.( Tour starts at Enfield Street School – 1318 Enfield St.)
SCITICO WALKING TOUR( Thursday) 585 Hazard Avenue- 2:30 p. m.- 4:30 p. m. May 21( Rain date May 28) Fee $ 19 – Jim Malley Senior Discount The tour begins at the Scitico Plaza behind the McDoanld’ s, continues past the Scitico Honor Roll, then down Leary Rd. to the former Scitico School, then above the Scantic River. The tour continues past the former Gordon Brothers business and down to the former Gowdy Gin Distillery. We will also discuss the Connecticut Central Railroad and the Hartford & Springfield Street Railway trolley.( Tour starts behind McDonald’ s Restaurant 585 Hazard Avenue.)
HAZARDVILLE OLD / NEW CEMETERY,( Saturday) HAZARD AVENUE & COLLINS CREAMERY May 30( Rain date – June 6) 9:00 a. m.- 12:00 p. m. Fee $ 25 – Jim Malley( Collins Creamery fee included) No Senior Discount This walking tour begins at the Elm Street entrance of the Hazardville New Cemetery. Participants will learn about the Hazardville residents and the Hazard Powder Co. Workers buried here. The tour will head east on Hazard Avenue to the Hazardville Old Cemetery, the Hazardville Institute, and then cross the street to the Hazardville Hotel. The tour continues west on Hazard Avenue to Cannister Hill, then back to Elm Street. The tour will continue by car to the Collins Creamery for a farm tour and ice cream.( Tour starts at Elm Street entrance of the Hazardville Cemetery).
