Q & A with Wynne Yellowjacket Grant Oguin. By: Ryan Fletcher
1. Wynne is a town that is known for its love for football. What has it been like growing up in Wynne where the people love the sport and now you are a key player on the football team? Wynne has a very rich tradition, as people around the state know. It has honestly been an eye-opening experience from watching Zach Morris and my cousin Luke Chapman wear the number three and now getting to rock the number that I got to watch as a kid make plays. Getting to have a community that is centered around football and to think that they are relying on me is just a crazy experience.
2. You enter your senior season with a new head coach after having seen two other head coaches in the last three prior years. First discuss what it has been like to play so far under the leadership of Randy Coleman since May? Coach Coleman’ s leadership has brought the team together through all the ups and downs. Throughout the summer, we have worked hard to adapt to the change of style of offense. We have obviously run a runheavy style of offense, and I feel like that has led to toughness and physicality that shows when we face adversity.
3. How has Coach Coleman’ s coaching philosophies and approach been different from Clay Totty’ s? What is something you learned from your prior coach that you can still use today and then something you have taken from Coach Coleman? Coach Totty’ s approach to coaching was very old school, while Coach Coleman has more adaptability and is more, new school. Coach Totty’ s philosophy was tough man win, and that will carry a bond with me that will never be broken. Coach Coleman’ s is NUNC COEPI, which means begin again, and that always reminds me to forget the next play and get better.
4. You have played a significant role on the team’ s offensive. Discuss your role on the team and the importance of you being successful which ultimately can help the team to win. I play H-Back, and I feel like it is a lineman with hands. Ultimately, I block 50 percent of the time and go out for passes the other 50 percent. Being a quarterback last year really helped me grasp the offense, and I was selected captain along with four others( Braydon Smith, Noah Steward, Mathew Hodges), and I feel like that comes with the thought of your team thinking you ' re a leader. If I have a bad game, we are ultimately losing an offensive lineman and losing a target on the offense.
5. You guys have a totally different offense this season. What has that change been like and how prepared do you feel right now versus the way you might’ ve felt in June? Do you believe you will feel even differently and more prepared come October? The change was going from straight smashmouth football in a split veer a majority of the time to a spread where we get it out in space and let our guys make plays. Honestly, I was uncertain in June; I felt like we were on a time crunch to learn a
