space for nursing mothers by adding drywall and a door for privacy. This replaced CCLD’s former lactation space, which doubled as an interview room. Executive Director, Dr. Jenn Grimm, recalls using the former lactation room in 2017 while in Webb Center for a full-day conference: “I felt so uncomfortable because the space clearly wasn’t designed for nursing mothers. It was not my most productive pumping session.”
During Fall 2025, the CCLD Admin Team added to the space by using gift account funds to purchase a cozy chair, side table, soft light lamp, refrigerator, and microwave, as well as obtaining décor to make the space feel light and cozy. CCLD is proud of the end result and excited to welcome nursing mothers to use this important campus resource.
Dr. Grimm remarks,
“I am so thankful to be in a position where I can use department resources to really make a positive impact on our students, faculty and staff, and Webb Center visitors. Being a nursing mother is not an easy task, and I am happy we can contribute in a small way to this important aspect of motherhood. I am especially excited for the additional resources we are able to provide, like a sink and microwave for cleaning and sanitizing pump parts, as well as a refrigerator for moms to store expressed milk until they are able to take it home for their babies.”
CCLD wishes to extend a special thanks to Bri Elum and the Women’s and Gender Equity Center for their expertise on what makes a lactation room exceptional. Members of Student and Campus Life are encouraged to use this resource and spread the news far and wide to nursing mothers who may benefit from it.
