Akima Akima expands STORMS contract
Akima, NANA’ s federal contracting business, supports U. S. government missions around the world, helping ensure critical systems operate reliably and securely every day. One of the many ways Akima delivers on this mission is through its work with the U. S. Space Force.
Akima is part of the Satellite Control Network Tracking Station Operations, Remote Site and Mission Partner Support( STORMS) contract, which helps operate and maintain the Space Force’ s Satellite Control Network( SCN). This global network of 19 antennas plays an important role in launching, tracking, and communicating with U. S. government satellites. These satellites support everything from national security to weather forecasting and global communications.
Thanks to the team’ s strong performance, the STORMS contract has recently expanded to include work at the Telemetry and Command Station at RAF Oakhanger in the United Kingdom. This expansion will bring approximately 60 additional employees onto the contract. At this site, Akima team members will help monitor satellite health, track positions in orbit, and send commands that keep these systems operating smoothly.
This growth reflects Akima’ s continued commitment to excellence— and creates new opportunities that ultimately support NANA’ s mission of providing longterm economic benefits to its shareholders.

Akima is helping to empower the next generation of NANA leaders by outreach focused on communicating Akima opportunities. This spring, Akima staff has traveled to Kotzebue, Anchorage, Sitka, and beyond to spread the word.
In Kotzebue, the team participated in a career fair at the Middle High School, speaking with students about the wide range of paths available to them and how to begin preparing now. In Anchorage, Akima hosted a meet-and-greet with high school and college students and their families, joined by other NANA companies and NANA Works. The outreach continued in Sitka at Mt. Edgecumbe High School, where Akima connected with shareholder students during the school’ s annual career fair.
These events focused on informing the students about the wide variety of careers that are available to them in the Akima portfolio, and about how NANA’ s shareholder hire preference could give them a leg up in beginning their professional journey. They also spoke extensively about Akima’ s college internship program, which begins in June this summer.
