ELECTIONS 2026 FC BARCELONA
MEMBERS DECIDE AGAIN
On Sunday 15 March, FC Barcelona members are called to take part in the fifteenth elections for the Presidency and the Board of Directors of the Club. This new date adds to the club’ s democratic track record which, since the arrival of democracy in the Spanish state, includes eight elections by universal suffrage: those held in 1978, 1989, 1997, 2000, 2003, 2010, 2015 and 2021. Before these, there was one election in which only men were allowed to vote, in 1953, and five others in which voting was restricted to delegate members, honorary members and former presidents, gathered in assembly. Until then, presidents had been appointed by the Franco regime during the early years of the dictatorship, or elected in assembly from the Club’ s foundation until the end of the Spanish Civil War. In any case, it is important not to lose sight of FC Barcelona’ s democratic character, which has been upheld even in adverse times. This is a distinctive feature that not all sporting institutions in the country can claim. On 15 March, on a date chosen to interfere as little as possible with the ordinary functioning of the Club( both institutionally and, especially, in sporting terms) we will once again experience a day of democratic celebration and reaffirmation of an exemplary tradition that forms an inseparable part of FC Barcelona’ s identity. The members have the final say.
