Eden Prairie Senior Center: Enhancing Community Life
The Eden Prairie Senior Center is guided by a mission to provide for social, recreational, educational, psychological and physical needs; enhance the visibility of older adults; and promote their participation in all aspects of community life.
Through a lively variety of programs for adults and seniors of all ages, the center achieves these goals. Staff members work closely with participants to offer relevant and important programs that promote lifelong learning and cater to evolving interests.
Available on weekdays and some evenings, the Senior Center is known for popular programming within fitness and wellness, discussion and support groups, special events, trips and lifelong learning classes. Classes and activities fall into four categories: cards and games; crafts and creative arts; discussion, learning and support groups; and fitness, health and wellness.
Under cards and games, residents can play or learn 500, canasta, cribbage, mahjong, Mexican Train Dominoes, partner bridge, pinochle and Texas Hold’ em poker.
Under crafts and creative arts, seniors can participate in crafting, greeting card creation, a quilting group or woodworking in the wood shop.
Under the discussion, learning and support groups category, participants can engage in book clubs, caregiver support groups, coffee with community groups, current events discussions, defensive driver safety courses, fireside chats with the Eden Prairie Fire Department and health insurance assistance.
Under fitness, health and wellness, seniors can join a bike or walking club, schedule foot care services, play pickleball and sign up for SilverSneakers yoga sessions.
As for resources, the Senior Center offers on-site assistance from aging-related organizations. Some services are provided by the Eden Prairie Professionals in Aging— a collaborative of local service providers— while others are provided by the National Council on Aging, Vital Aging Network and Minnesota Aging Pathways( formerly the Senior LinkAge Line).
