Mental health emerged as the highest-priority community health need in the 2026 CHNA, with maximum convergent evidence strength across all four primary data methods and significant secondary data indicators.
Secondary Data Findings
Based on secondary data scoring, the topic of Mental Health & Mental Disorders received a score of 1.44 out of 3, making it the eighth most concerning health topic by secondary data alone. However, when combined with primary data convergence, it rises to the top overall priority. Nevada has a statewide suicide rate that is 50 % higher than the national rate( 21.6 vs. 14.7 deaths per 100,000), and the rate in Washoe County is even higher at 24.3 deaths per 100,000.
Key indicators of concern include:
• Suicide mortality rate: 24.3 per 100,000( vs. HP2030 target: 12.8)
• Age-adjusted death rate due to suicide: 22.0 per 100,000( score: 1.62)
• High school students who have attempted suicide in the past year: 11.7 %( vs. NV: 10.4 %)
• Adults reporting 14 + days of poor mental health: 18.8 %
• High school students who rarely / never get help when feeling sad, hopeless, or anxious: 60.7 %( vs. NV: 57.2 %)
• Middle school students who have lived with someone with mental illness: 31.1 %
