Overview

The 2026 Renown Health Community Health Needs Assessment employed a comprehensive, mixed-methods approach that integrates both primary and secondary data to produce a rigorous and community-grounded analysis of health needs across Washoe County. The methodology was designed to ensure rigor, equity, and community voice at every stage of the assessment process.

Primary data were gathered directly from Washoe County residents, community leaders, and health system stakeholders through four complementary methods. Secondary data were drawn from existing databases and reports to provide quantitative health status context and enable comparison across local, state, and national benchmarks. Together, these data streams were synthesized using a triangulation approach to identify converging evidence across multiple sources. Primary data refers to information collected directly from the community specifically for this assessment— through surveys, interviews, and focus groups— and reflects the lived experiences and priorities of Washoe County residents. Secondary data refers to existing, publicly available data gathered by other organizations( such as state health departments, the U. S. Census Bureau, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) that provide a broader statistical context for understanding community health trends.
