External transfer applicants seeking admission into the Bachelor of Health Science( BHS) program who have previously earned an Associate of Science( AS) degree and hold an active National Board for Respiratory Care Registered Respiratory Therapist( RRT) credential are eligible to apply for advanced standing. The RRT credential will be evaluated for“ credit-for-registry” and may be applied toward required respiratory care coursework. Previously completed respiratory care courses at other institutions will be evaluated for transfer equivalency and applied toward the curriculum as appropriate.
Applicants must complete all General Education and Core Curriculum requirements as outlined on the respiratory care curriculum sheet. A minimum grade of“ C”( C- is not acceptable) must be maintained in all concentration, science, and mathematics courses. Applicants must submit official transcripts from each institution attended and must have achieved a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale for consideration under this pathway. A minimum of forty-five( 45) credits must be completed at the University.
The RRT credential must be current within five( 5) years of the anticipated BHS program completion date. Applicants whose credential exceeds this timeframe must obtain re-credentialing. Academic Standards and Grade Requirements
Students must earn a minimum grade of“ C”( C- is not acceptable) in all science, mathematics, and respiratory care courses. Science and mathematics courses may be repeated once; however, multiple repeated science courses may result in ineligibility for progression into the program.
Respiratory care courses may be repeated once. Failure of a repeated respiratory care course or any subsequent respiratory care course will result in dismissal from the program. Students must follow the prescribed course sequence and may not progress to upper-level or clinical coursework without successful completion of all prerequisite courses.
Academic Progression and Retention
Progression into the professional phase of the program requires successful completion of all prerequisite coursework in accordance with program standards.
Students who fail a course within the major must repeat that course and withdraw from any subsequent respiratory care courses until the failed course is successfully completed, provided space is available. Unsuccessful performance in a repeated respiratory care course, or in any subsequent respiratory care course, will result in dismissal from the program.
